Students from the following schools will be auditioned on Thurs Dec 4 and Fri Dec 5.

Ulladulla HS and PS, Batemans Bay HS and PS, Narooma HS, Moruya HS, Bega HS, Eden HS, Jindabune Central and Mulwaree HS.

Specific venues and times will be advised.

21 November -Auditions 2009 - Band and Featured Instrumentalist

Information is available in the Documents area for those who have applied to audition for the Southern Stars showband, or as a featured instrumentalist in the 2009 Southern Stars show or for one of the limited number of places in the Regional Performing Ensemble. Auditions are at the Citadel, Smiths Hill HS.

14 Nov - Dancing In The Dark

Storm, drenching rain and a power outage at a critical time created an interesting situation at the Performing Company end of year concert.

For nearly an hour lit by fading daylight and some jury rigged lights the Company and Ensemble kids performed with acoustic instruments.

5 Nov - Performing Company - Singers, Dancers and "Stars" Showband

Please take note of the arrangements for our end of year concert at Jamberoo Valley Lodge on November 14th.

The rehearsal and show have been put together with the assumption that the performers in the items from “Southern Stars” this year will be available.

You must confirm your attendance with Kylie or Merrin asap.
Dancers should confirm your attendance with  Sharon.

Dinner numbers need to be given to the venue early next week, so if you are not going to have dinner (at $15 for 2 courses), once again you need to tell us asap.

We will assume you will be there if we don’t hear from you.

Dressy blacks will be the costume for the vocalists as change areas will be limited.

Dancers should be able to change costumes

31 Oct - Third concert of the day, outdoors, 36 degrees C and still smiling.

The Regional Performing Ensemble finished their final tour for the year with a performance at Thirroul PS today. In tough conditions they managed to deliver a great show.

30 Oct - "Hats in Boxes"

These young people are in class KC at Nareena Hills PS. They will be presenting their item "Hats in Boxes" at NSW State Public Schools Drama Festival next Friday 7th November at the Seymour Centre, Sydney. Well done KC.

16 October - Junior Music Camp Closes With Great Concert

146 students in years 6 to 9 from Regional schools attended the camp over the past week. The closing concert played to a packed room of parents, friends and DET staff. Congratulations to all involved.

16 October - Teaching Costume Design In The Classroom

A course aimed at Drama and Textiles teachers run by a professional costume designer from Belvoir St Theatre's Company B.

Show Biz! If you have to dress up, the picture on the left gives you a pretty good example of how to do it. Doesn't he look great? This young person is one of this year's Southern Stars waiting to go on stage. A wonderful show again this year. Congratulations to everyone involved. If things have been a bit quiet on the web site for the past week it is because most of us have been pretty busy with the show and away from our normal work environments. Keep your eye on the Gallery and the Southern Stars site for lots more pictures. Coming soon.

8 Aug - Regional Performing Ensemble on Tour This Past Week

The tour, a tough one with lots of performances, went from the Illawarra to the Snowy Mountains. The group is pictured here performing at Jerrabomberra PS.

23 Jul - TDP Graduation

Above - Jade Slater pictured after her graduation from the Talent Development Project. The performances were held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and the presentations made by Director General Michael Coutts-Trotter. Congratulations Jade. A wonderful achievement. Jade attended Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts. Left - The picture we missed last year when Lincoln Hall graduated from TDP. Lincoln, now studying at NIDA, was in the audience supporting this year's graduates.

 

5 Jul - Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre Gala Opening

Clyde Circus provided foyer and outside fire entertainment for the 900 plus guests at the black tie event. You will see the circus again in Southern Stars this year. Nowra High School dancers were featured performers along with the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra, Grace Knight, Trisha Crowe, Jane Rutter and Peter Cousens. Their dance was 'Tears of a Geisha' already performed at dance festival. There are more pictures in the dance festival page.

26 Jun - Shows for schools from Kookaburra directed by Peter Cousens

Kookaburra, The National Musical Theatre Company, is looking for schools in the Illawarra to host the performance of one of these shows in September (12-13). These are approved school shows.

23 May - Arts Foundation Scholarship (this item also appears in InPrincipal)

Nominations from School Principals must be received by Wed 11th June.

The Arts Education Foundation Trust is awarding ten scholarships to NSW public school students in keeping with its purpose of promoting and supporting the Arts in NSW schools and as part of its inaugural Arts Address in Sydney on August 5th.
We have an opportunity to select one student from the Illawarra and South East Region to receive one of the scholarships to the value of $1000.

A worthy recipient will be a student who is extremely talented and who can demonstrate an engagement in the Arts (be it performance based or visual arts). The recipient will be selected by a committee chaired by David Phipps, School Education Director.

Nominees should submit a paragraph (no more than 100 words) and a powerpoint or DVD presentation to demonstrate aspects of their work. This should be no longer than 1-2 minutes. The supporting paragraph should be signed by the school principal as a true record of their work.

Closing date for nominations is Wed 11th June.

15 May - Showband

Congratulations to all the instrumental performers who attended the band workshop yesterday. Charts from this year's Southern Stars were used in the workshop to select the final combination of instruments to be used in the showband. Click here to download the list of individuals selected.

8 May - Ensemble wow Principal's at ISE Regional Conference Dinner for 3rd year in a row.

 

In the audience were Michael Coutts-Trotter, Director General of NSW DET, and Trevor Fletcher, Deputy Director General. Both obviously enjoyed the show and were very gracious in their acknowledgment of our Ensemble members after the performance.
