December - Ensemble on same bill as Barnesy

Jimmy Barnes performing with his family at the

December - Performing Company Concert Winds Up Year For The Company

The
Regional Performing Company and Southern Stars Showband celebrated
their 2007 by revisiting some of their notable performances of
the year last night at Dapto Leagues Club. Southern Stars repertoire
figured prominently.
A
full house of parents, relatives, friends and senior DET staff
enjoyed the performances and the presentation of certificates
to acknowledge each Company member's contribution for the year.
Regional
Director Graeham Kennedy is pictured above (right) with the Junior
Company Dance Ensemble. He individually congratulated each Company
member as he presented their certificates.
28th
November - The Calendar - Again!
The
calendar, we discover, is not completely fixed and is defying any
short term fix. So it's gone. No time to do more. We will put a
simple list of events for the rest of the year up instead. Next
week sometime.

November - The Calendar
Those
who use this site regularly will have noticed some of the problems
with the calendar. They have been fixed but all the features have
not been implemented. In particular the coming events on this
page and subscriptions to the calendar. If you follow the link
to the calendar on the left the information is there.
At
this stage of the year we will just go with what we have, especially
since a new calendar was planned for next year.
20th
November 2007 - Expressions of Interest from staff for 2008 Southern
Stars
Interested
teachers and DET staff are invited to apply for a variety of roles
in the 2008 production of Southern Stars. They range from working
backstage, assisting with costumes, writing musical arrangements
or coordinating dancers.

complete and return the form by 14 December 2007

November - AUDITIONS for Company and Ensemble 2008
Feedback
will be sent to schools this week on audition details for checking
at school level. Over 500 applications have been received so you are
asked to be patient.
Audition
times will be posted here soon. They will be organised by school to
assist with transport. Please check back here over the next few days.

November - Congratulations Mini Movie Team. Well done.

The
Mini Movie initiative gets stronger each year. This week around 2000
students celebrated their work in movie festivals in theatres in Bowral,
Nowra and Warrawong.

November - Ensemble goes South

Last
week the Regional Performing Ensemble toured schools in the South
and West of our Region. A record of 15 performances in a week. They
then backed up for their family concert on Saturday.
Along
the way they stayed at the Pelican sheep station near Goulburn and
learned about sheep and wool and shearing and young lambs.

Concluding
with a fantastic concert last night Music Camp 2007 was a great success.

October - Schools Spectacular Rehearsal at State Netball Centre Lidcombe

Our
Junior Company Dancers join with dancers from Newtown, State Dance
Ensemble and Hunter SPA to rehearse an item for School Spec. Click

for the Regional Performing Ensemble and the Regional Performing Company
will be held in week 7 of this term You

September - Auditions for Regional Performers 2008
Auditions
for the Regional Performing Company and the Regional Performing Ensemble
for 2008 will be held in term 4 this year. The performing company
provides featured artist for Southern Stars.
There
will be early auditions for far travelling students
during Music Camp in Week 2 and the Ensemble tour in week 3. The main
auditions will be later in the term.
The
early auditions will not apply to Illawarra, Shoalhaven or Southern
Highlands students. More information about the main auditions will
be posted here early term 4.

is 16th November.

not be at home here very much for that time.

August - Lincoln Hall Graduates from TDP
Today
Lincoln graduated from the 2007 Talent
Development Project along with eight other talented performers
. The graduation was at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Each of the
group performed to an audience of dignitaries and family and friends.
Congratulations
Lincoln and we look forward to your performances in Southern Stars
in a few weeks.
We
missed a chance to get a photo of Lincoln on the day but:

Batemans
Bay's Kirby Burgess who graduated last year from TDP also performed
today. Kirby, well known to ISE audiences, has been going from strength
to strength. She recently returned from New York after an invitation
to perform on Broadway in a show called Rising Stars of Broadway.

Congratulations
to Ms Bampton and the Junior Ensemble and Junior Company dancers for

non- traditional percussion spectacular. We are looking for experienced

June - Music. Count Us In
The'
Music - Count Us In' initiative has been developed by 'Music: Play
for Life' in conjunction with national The Department of Education,
Science and Training. The aim of this initiative is to reinforce the
value of music education in our schools and this year, "Life
is a Song" has been written by John Foreman as part of this promotion.
This
initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for music educators to
be involved in promoting music in their school or community.

May Southern Stars Launch next Wednesday (16th May)
The
media launch for invited guests will be held at Wollongong
City Art Gallery. There will be performances from selected Performing
Company students.
The
Art Gallery has a prepared document to assist teachers in preparing
risk management. It

May - Performing Company Vocalists will know the name Jonathon Welch.
Jonathon
is the renowned tenor who has been coaching our vocalists for a couple
of years. He will be workshopping this Saturday with the new Performing
Company Vocalists.
You
may be interested to look at

Jonathon at work with one of his passions, The Choir of Hardknocks.
Series starts next Tuesday at 8pm.

May - Regional Director Graeham Kennedy pictured with the youngest vocalist
(year 1) in the Regional Performing Company after the closing of the
Regional Principal's Conference.

The
conference had something of a musical bent. Our youngest vocalist
(above) charmed Principals at the conference close with a couple of
songs. The Karabar HS marching band created a striking presence in
the Novotel lounge to open the conference. At the conference dinner
the Regional Performing Ensemble entertained brilliantly with its
range of high energy and sophisticated performance.

The
camp will be held Waterslea Nowra from June 5 to 8. Mrs M Jackson

Boat Club to perform at a Variety Club fund raising event . More

Feb - National Awards for excellence in Music Education
The
2007 National Awards for Excellence in School Music Education are
now open and calling for nominations. The awards are funded by the
Australian Government under the Australian Government Quality Teacher
Programme in response to Recommendation 1 from the 2005 Report on
the National Review of School Music Education: To enhance the status
of school music education. They are being administered by the Australian
Society for Music Education.
Information about the awards, nomination forms, guidelines for applications
and promotional material are now available on the ASME web site at
