Southern Stars T shirts have been dispatched and should be arriving in schools this week or next. Please be advised that some sizes were changed because of lack of stock. ( See website post 9th August below) I have
since been advised that the lime childrens' T shirts
are labelled as follows: Size 6 = XS Young

Arachnids Arise Does the word arachnophobia mean anything to you? That's a hint at what these folk are rehearsing to create. Thrown in is some spooky music, lots of aerial work and pretty aggressive activity. It works for us. Without costumes and decent lighting the photos don't do justice to what this act will bring to the WEC at show time. Even so there are some more photos of the rehearsal in the gallery.

9 Aug - T Shirt Information
For those schools who have ordered Southern Stars T shirts this year, they should be arriving in schools the week before show week. Unfortunately due to stock supplies, there have been some changes to the original order . Some schools who ordered Size 10 Lime shirts will notice that some of their orders have been replaced with a Size 12 Lime. There were NO Lime Extra Small sizes available so these have been replaced with a Small and also NO Black Extra Small sizes so these have been replaced with a Size 16 (childrens). We do apologise for this inconvenience.

2 Aug - Hip Hop Auditions
Thank you to all those dancers who put in audition DVDs. Unfortunately there was no-one that suited the style we were looking for. Please keep a lookout in future years for other ways you may be involved in Southern Stars as it is an ever evolving show.

22 Jul - Dance and Choir Coordinators - Your Ticket Orders
All school Dance and Choir coordinators need to get their order for their comp ticket in before Friday 25th July as a matter of urgency. All tickets will then be released for sale to the general public if not claimed by this date. Orders should be faxed on the appropriate form to Shellharbour Regional Office on 4251 9945

Just added were some massed dance item rehearsals. This is a reminder to everyone to check the calendar as well as news for dates, places and times and changes. The full page calendar linked in the main menu on the left will give you a more comprehensive view than the list above.
2 Jul - Choir Teachers - email
Beck has found that she has incorrect email addresses for some of you. Her messages bounce. If you have not received email from her you may be in that group.
If so please check your DET email (your.name@education.nsw.gov.au) as Beck has sent copies to that address.
You could also send an email to Rebecca.Keen@education.nsw.gov.au so that Beck can get a correct address from that.

16 Jun - T Shirt orders for staff
Thank you to all the teachers who attended
the Southern Stars Teachers Meeting on 4th June. It was
great to see so many familiar faces and to welcome aboard
some new schools for 2008. We hope you managed to glean
some helpful information from attending this meeting.
Reminder: Although T shirts are NOT compulsory this year,
don't forget that the orders must reach Balgownie PS by
Friday 27th June. If you are one of the teachers who will
be participating in the You Raise Me Up number you will
need a lime or black T shirt.
This year we have changed T shirt suppliers so I have included
a sizing chart which should help with your orders.

5 Jun - Performing Company at Southern Stars Launch
The Regional performing company entertained at the formal launch of Southern Stars 2008 - "This Life!" at Wollongong City Art Gallery. Sponsors, media representatives and senior DET staff formed the audience along with a number of parents.

It was a busy day for Southern Stars yesterday. Well over one hundred teachers attented the meeting at Shelleys to receive details of this year's show and watch a performance of the finale.

2 Jun - Musica Viva Workshop for Choir Teachers
Song Safari, a course run by Musica Viva, will be conducted on June 20. This is an Integral Energy sponsored workshop so there will be no course charges for Southern Stars choir teachers.

2 Jun - Don't forget the Teachers Meeting this coming Wednesday
Hopefully you have all received a fax telling you about the Teachers Meeting on Wednesday 4th June at Shellharbour Workers Club at 4.30pm (just like last year).
At this meeting we will be doing a quick run through of the show, you’ll meet you choreograhers/choir coordinators, discuss costumes, hear some songs from the show, see the dance routine for the finale and generally have a lot of questions answered. Posters and T shirt order forms will be available for you to take back to school and the teachers info pack will be given out.
29 May - Dance Auditions for Southern Stars 'This Life'
Opportunities for dancers exist in the following areas:
- High School Ballet
- Male contemporary/modern year K-12
- Hip – Hop, Pop and Breakdancers (male or female) from years K-12
Ballet and male dance audtions will be held on June 16
The Hip-Hop, Pop and Breakdance applicants must send a DVD by 2nd July

25 May - Meet Evan
Evan has a special role in this year's show. More about that in the 'About Stars' section at top right on this page. Evan is pictured at the Performing Company vocal rehearsal today. The Company has been learning some of the 'This Life' repertoire for the show launch coming up soon.

Congratulations to all the instrumental performers who attended the band workshop yesterday. Charts from this year's Southern Stars were used in the workshop to select the final combination of instruments to be used in the showband. Click here to download the list of individuals selected.
